60. I´m not dead (yet)

3,5 years since the last time I wrote something on my blog... Long time. But I´m not dead, and I didn´t stop playing games, crafting terrain and painting miniatures, just the free time got short. Yeah, Covid years were the golden years for the hobby... So I had to cut from my hobby doings and sorry, but this blog had to be let down. I don´t say, that I have more time now, or that I will write regulary, I just wanted to give a sign of life (not that I expect any interest for this...). A lot of things happened in this 3,5 years, so here is a short summary of just the most important ones:

  • I found a game, which completely conquered our (the kids and mine) hearts and mind: Bushido! Its a small skirmish game (4-10 miniatures per player), set in a quasi-japanese fantasy world, and its fantastic, probably the best skirmish game ever (for me)! Why, you ask? Because:
    • The setting is lovely, rich and various (and a matter of taste, but I just love it!)
    • 13 very different factions: ninjas, good monks, evil monks, undead and deamons, onis (ogres) and bakemonos (goblins), tengus (bird-people), pirates with shark-people and crab-people, criminals with sumo-fighters and courtesans, spider-people, samurai with snakes, samurai with bears, samurai with dragon, "kurosawaesque" samurai and a lot of different ronins
    • Balance is great, especially if you count in the different playstyles of every faction
    • The miniatures are fantastic, detailed, but not overly detailed, dynamic, with a very high production quality, here are some pictures of some of our warbands (not all of them were ready at this stage):

    • Rules are a bit overwhelming at first, but still great, with a very unique and fun dice-system
    • It just needs a 2´x2´ (91cmx91cm) space
    • The developers are active, new releases are coming every time and they are constantly in touch with the community
    • The community is great, helpful and very-very kind (extra shout-out for the austrian players!)
  • We now have 2,5 (Imperial, Rebel and criminals of the Shadow Collective) FULLY PAINTED Star Wars Legion armies (photos are bad, but I don´t have better ones at the moment)!

  • I´m developing my own game! It´s a fantasy skirmish game about hunting monsters (and each other), with an unique activation-system (as I know). I had already a bunch of playtest games with my sons and the system works pretty well, but it still needs a lot of tuning. This takes an awful lot of time because the amount (or better, lack of) free time I have, but I hope that I can go to the public playtest with the local community end of this year. And it´s written in german, which could be a great advantage in my region (and for the playtests), and a great disadvantage elsewhere, but let see how it develops...
What were you doing in the last 3,5 years?
