19. Oathmark elven army

As I already showed the elven cavalry conversion, maybe it’s the easiest to begin the family army showcase with the elven troops. Let’s start with the official options, the Northstar range. Till now, there are two plastic boxes and four metal plaster pack available:

• Elf infantry: 30 miniatures with full options to build all of them as soldiers, archers or spearman (spearelf?), with some additional parts to make champions and standard bearers (like in all the Northstar plastic boxes). All of them are lightly armored with chain mails and high helmets. The point value of the box varies (depending on what you make of it) 600 (soldiers) and 720 (archers).
  
  
  
  

• Elf light infantry: 30 miniatures to make rangers or pathguards (so there are no spears), with champions and standard bearers. As they are meant to be light infantry, they have no armor, but there are some helmeted head options. The point value is from 660 (pathguards) to 750 (rangers).
  
  
  
  
  

• Two different blister packs of elf champions (3 miniatures in each). The design of one is fitted to the elf infantry (with great axe, great sword, spear and shield) and the other to the elf light infantry boxes (with sword and shield, bow, and an intermediate figure with sword and bow).
  
  
  
  
  
  

• Two blister packs of the king-wizard-musician trio (however the musician has no importance according to the basic ruleset). As the champion packs, these are fitted to the plastic boxes too.
  
  
  
  
  
  

Unfortunately, the metal figures, which fit the design of the light infantry, weren’t available lately. I wanted to buy them for my wife, but maybe later…
That was the official selection, lets take a look what we did! The elves are the most expensive troops, and my wife is the least impassioned about wargames, she has only one plastic box, the cavalry (former post) and one metal figure. She choose the light infantry box, because she liked them more. And I cant disagree with her… Not that the normal infantry looks bad, but the clothes on the light infantry looks just better. There is only one little problem with that box: the heads are too similar... We still use them as normal infantry (I guess they wear they light chain mails under the robes).
What she built from the box? As the elven archers are so superior to all others, she wanted 20 archers (10 with hooded heads and 10 with bare heads, to make 2 different units, as needed), and 10 soldiers (with helmets). The painting is far away from ready yet, but there plans and some pretty colorful samples:

• The soldiers will have dark blue cloaks with turquoise-yellow magical flames on the bottom (we saw a picture of some GW elves, and my wife liked that, so I had to practice my freehand painting skills), the same colors on the shields, dark turquoise robes, light brown leather gloves and boots, and some fitting colors additional:
  
  
  

• The hooded archers will have greenish main colors and a freehanded tree on them, and with that, they can also be used as rangers:
  
  
  
• The other archer unit will get blue, purple or turquoise as a main color, with a flower on the cloak:

And at last, there is the character mini. It’s a very nice sculpted one from Reaper Miniatures (without any plan yet for the painting). A she is the only one (for now), must be used as a multi-character, she can be anything except the mages (I already posted about the elven mages for Frostgrave, they can be used in Oathmark too):

We listed the troops, and the characters. What else? Yeah, the big boys (girls)! Warmachines and monsters! I couldn’t find a fitting ballista until now, so this option is missing in the army-list... But there are some (two) monsters. A very cheap and nice looking griffon (from Reaper Bones) will serve as a lindwurm:

And there is a beautiful and very girly genie in the Reaper Bones Black line. I was thinking about a place for her, to surprise my wife, but there was no fitting monster… And then came Battlesworn (first supplement for Oathmark), with the rules for a water elemental. Not really a genie, but I think its okay to use this miniature for the rules (more to the painting later, when its ready):

The army of my wife’s elves (without characters, because they point value can vary):

• 10 soldiers (200 points)

• 20 archers (480 point)

• 10 cavalry (700 points)

• 1 lindwurm (500 points)

• 1 water elemental (0 points, because it’s a summoned creature)

So the pure elven army has an overall point value of: 1880 points
